NAME: Patient Care Tech Apprenticeship

WHAT: Learn to work collaboratively with the nurses within the unit you are assigned to provide care and treatment of patients.

WHERE:  Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, Paoli Hospital, Riddle Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, and Lankenau Medical Center, all in PA.

PROGRAM/CLASSES: Learn caring for patients by assisting with their daily living activities, taking vital signs, Accu-Checks, Phlebotomy, EKGs, and other nursing assistant responsibilities.

TIME COMMITMENT:  8 weeks

COST:  Free! Also, earn $2,500 bonus upon successful completion of the program and given opportunity to pursue a part-time or full time Patient Care Tech career at several locations.

REQUIREMENTS:  High school diploma.

Two EKG Technician Training Programs

If you’re looking for a career in healthcare and want a good paying job with minimal training time commitment, becoming an EKG technician might be a great option! EKG techs perform tests that can help discover irregularities in the heart leading to heart attacks or heart disease. They work mostly in hospitals and other health care facilities. If you love the idea of a career where you are helping people, an EKG Tech training program may be for you. Got a diploma? You’ve got options!

NAME: CCP’s EKG Tech Training program and Preppy’s EKG Tech Training program

WHAT: Learn cardiovascular tests that can measure the heart’s activity.

WHERE: Online courses through CCP or Preppy

PROGRAM/CLASSES: Training programs teach cardiac anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, and technical aspects of an EKG machine, as well as correct interpretation of data.

TIME COMMITMENT:  2 – 6 months

COST: $1,300 – $1,600

REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma, good with numbers and ability to read graphs, empathetic person who works well with people, ability to lift heavy machinery, physical stamina and a natural tendency towards physical activity.

NOTE:  The average annual pay for an EKG Technician in Pennsylvania is over $40,000 a year. EKG techs are in high demand with a growth rate of almost twice the average job and have a higher salary than most positions that do not require a degree. Preppy’s training program provides a free computer! Both programs listed above provide volunteer externship placements for experience.
