NAME: National Elevator Industry Education Program (Apprenticeship)

WHAT: Learn about generators and motors, essential tools, aerial lift, hydrolics, maintenance and more.

WHERE:  Programs located in almost every state in the country, including Philadelphia, PA.

PROGRAM/CLASSES: Training begins with 6 months online training program. After completion of this program, there is a combination of classroom and on-the-job training.

TIME COMMITMENT:  Apprenticeship program typically takes 4 to 5 years.

COST:  Free, paid training provided as part of employment. Most apprentices make 40% or more of an average elevator technician’s salary.

REQUIREMENTS:  High school diploma. 18 years old or older. Must pass elevator aptitude test (tests candidates on basic arithmetic, reading comprehension, mechanical comprehension, and general tool knowledge).

NAME: PPPL’s Safety Inspector Technician Apprenticeship

WHAT: Learn how to provide safe conditions in lab specializing in fusion energy.

WHERE:  Princeton, NJ

PROGRAM/CLASSES: 6000 hours of instruction, including maintaining industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, electrical safety, environmental safety and construction safety.

TIME COMMITMENT:  approximately 4 years

COST: Free!

REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma, motivated, time management skills, ready to learn and be challenged, ability to lift 50 lbs.
