NAME: Aircraft Deicer

WHAT: Learn to de-ice aircraft

WHERE:  Philadelphia, PA

PROGRAM/CLASSES: Learn to use deicing fluids to remove ice and snow from aircraft surfaces; learn to drive deicing trucks

TIME COMMITMENT:  About 1 week of paid training

COST:  Free! 100% paid training. Pay is $18 per hour.

REQUIREMENTS:   Ability to speak English; comfortable in heights over 40 feet, driver’s license.

Gas Line Safety Inspector

Do you love being outdoors? Are you the kind of person who likes to be always moving? Want to receive paid training for an interesting career? The Gas Line Safety Inspector Apprenticeship might be for you.  Got a diploma? You’ve got options!

NAME: Gas Line Safety Inspector Apprenticeship

WHAT: Learn to conduct required safety inspections on designated natural gas systems. 

WHERE:  Plymouth Meeting, PA

PROGRAM/CLASSES: Learn to collect monthly readings from customer meters following Client, State and Federal requirements.

TIME COMMITMENT:  Unspecified

COST:  Free! 100% paid training. Pay is $20 to $25 per hour.

REQUIREMENTS:   18 years old. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. Must be willing to work outside in all sorts of weather. Must pass drug screen and background check. High school diploma required. Driver’s license & safe driving record required.

Green Jobs Training through ECA

Are you interested in working for a growing industry in Green Design technology? Energy Coordinating Agency’s (ECA’s) Knight Green Jobs Training Center offers high quality trainings. They have need-based grants that provide tuition-free job training and certifications for students applying for their Solar Installer, Green Renovation, or Environmental Remediation courses.

Arborist Apprentice

A high school diploma is all you need to get started for many fulfilling careers. Do you enjoy being outside? Do you have a love for trees and plants? If you’ve got a diploma, you’ve got options! Check out Shreiner Tree Care’s Arborist entry level Apprentice position.

NAME: Arborist Apprentice with Shreiner Tree Care

WHAT: Provide tree care, landscaping, and plant health care.

Outward Bound Apprenticeship

A high school diploma is all you need to get started for many fulfilling careers. Do you like back-packing, canoeing, and rock climbing? An Outward Bound Apprenticeship may be just the thing for you. Apprentices get paid while they are training!

NAME: Outward Bound Apprenticeship

WHAT: Preparation to become an Outward Bound Instructor. Classroom and in-field training.

WHERE:  3401 Reservoir Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19121

PROGRAM/CLASSES: Expedition, program, classroom & technical training including instruction in Outward Bound philosophy, backpacking, canoeing, ropes, & rock-climbing, conflict resolution, safety, gear and maintenance repair, etc.

TIME COMMITMENT: 10 – 12 weeks

COST: Free training and stipend of $1500 per month

REQUIREMENTS:  For individuals ages 21 & up. Must get appropriate clearances (Criminal History, Child Abuse, FBI), be physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

NOTE:  Optional Staff housing is available
